Shared Airport Transfers for Budget-Friendly Travel
A shared airport transfer (shuttle) takes passengers from different flights, staying at hotels in the same direction, to their accommodation in one vehicle at set departure times. It can cost less than a private transfer, but the journey can take around 1–1.5 hours longer.

What Is a Shared Airport Transfer?
In a shared transfer, the vehicle is not reserved for one traveller or one family. Passengers arriving on different flights and heading the same way travel together, whether their hotels are in the same resort area or in different ones along the way. The vehicle then drops each of them at their own hotel in turn. Because the cost is split among many passengers, the fare can be lower than for a private transfer.
Free transfers included in package holidays work on the same principle. They usually run by coach or minibus, so the journey can take as long as a shared transfer, or even longer.
How Long Does a Shared Airport Transfer Take?
Over the same distance, a shared transfer can take around 1–1.5 hours longer than a private transfer, and the difference has two causes. The first is the wait at the airport. The vehicle leaves at a scheduled departure time rather than when it is full, so even if your flight lands early, you may need to wait in the terminal until it sets off. The second is the stops along the way. The vehicle may call at other hotels first, often around three, before it reaches yours.
Who Is a Shared Transfer Right For?
For travellers with flexible plans whose main concern is the cost of getting to the hotel, a shared transfer is often the first option that comes to mind. If you are travelling alone with light luggage, a short wait in the terminal or a few hotel stops may make little difference.
The picture changes for families with children, travellers with a lot of luggage and anyone landing late at night. After a long flight, waiting for the departure time and spending extra time on stops can make the arrival day more tiring than expected. In high season, busy airports and resort areas can stretch that time even further.
What Is the Difference Between a Shared and a Private Airport Transfer?
The key difference is who the vehicle travels for. A shared transfer follows a departure schedule, while a private transfer follows your landing time.
| Topic | Shared transfer (shuttle) | Private transfer |
|---|---|---|
| Vehicle | Used together with other passengers | Reserved only for you and your travel companions |
| Waiting at the airport | Passengers wait for the scheduled departure | You are met at the terminal exit after collecting your luggage |
| If the flight is delayed | The booking is moved to the next available shuttle after the new landing time | The pickup time is adjusted to the new landing time |
| Journey time | Can take around 1–1.5 hours longer than a private transfer | Direct from the airport to the hotel |
| Stops | May call at other hotels for other passengers | No stops on the way |
| Price | Usually lower | Higher than a shared transfer |
What to Check Before Booking an Airport Transfer
For every type of transfer, the flight number given when booking is what allows the pickup to be planned correctly. We track your landing time with this number, and if your flight is delayed, the transfer is rescheduled to the new arrival time.
The price confirmed in your booking is fixed. Parking fees, tolls and taxes are included in it. You can pay for the transfer online by credit card, and if you cancel up to 24 hours before the pickup time, the amount paid is refunded without any deduction.
Which Airport Transfer Should You Choose?
In most cases, the decision comes down to how much of your arrival day you are happy to spend travelling. With a shared transfer, the lower fare comes at the cost of waiting in the terminal and a longer journey with stops. With a private transfer, the journey is timed to your landing and ends at your hotel's door. For travellers who want to spend the first hours of their holiday at the hotel, that difference can decide it.
