Trou aux Cerfs is a dormant volcano, also known as Murr's Volcano. Located just 1 kilometer from Curepipe, the city of Mauritius. Rising to 605 meters, this volcano has a diameter of 350 meters and a depth of about 100 meters. Around the bowl of the volcano is a large forest of local plant species and some giant pine trees. It is believed that Trou aux Cerfs erupted once about 700,000 years ago and has been dormant ever since.
This natural tourist attraction is a prime location offering 360-degree views of the city, the city of Curepipe and the Rempart Mountain, Trois Mamelles, and the Port-Louis-Moka mountain ranges.
There are three main access points to the Trou aux Cerfs: La Hausse de la Louviere Road, Edgar Huges Road and Crater Lane. Parking areas can be easily found. There is also a radar station that electronically monitors cyclone activity. Trou aux Cerfs is an opportunity to explore the landscapes around this fascinating volcano, which makes you feel as if you have gone deep into nature.
